5.-METAL AGES.
About 7.000 years ago, people learnt to use metals.
They used copper, tin, bronze and iron.
They melted the metals in hot furnaces. Then, they shaped the hot metal into different objects.
They found copper, tin and iron in mines.
At first, people used copper to make tools.
Then, they learnt to mix copper and tin to make bronze.
Finally, they work with iron.
People also used precious metals like gold and silver to make jewellery.

In the Metal Ages, people lived in towns. Towns were surrounded by walls for protection.
New jobs were created:
- Soldiers, to defend the town.Each group of soldiers had a chief.
- Traders, to buy and sell metals, clothes and pottery.
They also get new inventions:
The wheel: to build carts and transport goods.
Sailing boats: to transport people and goods by water.
The plough: It was pulled by animals. Farmers used it to create bigger crops, so they had a lot of extra food to trade.
